Time has passed (to give everyone a perspective, my elder son is the same age as I was when I was in Kabul - how time flies), but beautiful memories of each and every one of you are still very fresh in my mind. It seems like only yesterday when we were in Kabul. I still remember the Mr. Arora, asking us to solve the math problem to see if we had done our home work and me raising my hand so he will assume I had done it even though I had not or Mr. Bharadwaj asking those tough physics questions and Mr. Pramod Sharma, helping us put our chemistry project together and the time Manoj, Sanjiv and I spent with PS listening to his song collections etc. I remember Picnics and the wild parties, Manoj, and Sanjiv and Rakesh Malhotra had. Guys thats a nice trip down memory lane. Some of my best days were with all of you.
Today even though we are all not together, but my Best Wishes are with all of you on this special occassion of Diwali!!!

Hi,
I somehow stumbled upon this website. I recognized a couple of names in the directory. I was in the same class as Soma Sarkar for a few months in 8th grade in 79. Her mom made the best Rasgullas.
I was in the school starting in August 79 to June or July of 82. I should have joined the 9th grade but my English was so horrendous that I failed that entrance exam. In the math entrance test, I remember not knowing what a cyclic quadrilateral was, Mr. Jayson, I do know what it is now!! I remember scoring a mere 35/100 in the first English test in the 8th grade. Oh, the shame of it all, and yes I have put it behind me as it was a growing experience.
The teachers I remember were:
Mr. Rohit Ratanjee - He was so talented, I think he was also the advisor for Jamuna House to which I belonged. I think I felt a little scorned by him because of my lack of the mastery of the English language. But I did admire him for his creativity and encouraging us students to be involved in the debates,speeches, government etc.
Mr. Jayson - Math teacher - I loved his teaching style where he led the students to derive the proof of the theorems.
Mrs. Jayson - English teacher (how well she taught us to enunciate the words), to this day I remember her as I struggle through reading Dr. Suess to my kids)
Principal Arora - I was afraid of him but loved Mrs. Arora. I had the good fortune of eating her gobi parathas a couple of times in Kabul. Simply delicious.
Mrs. Verkey - Biology teacher, she was so good!
And I wish I remembered the name of our art teacher, he is a Sardarji. I still remember his faith in me when I was playing the Sitar once at their home. His wife used to play the sitar too. He let me play by ear. He played a few notes on his violin and asked me to reproduce it on the Sitar. It was such a novel concept to me to play by ear. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up my interest in Sitar.
Mr. Gosian - I think he was our Physics teacher

And I remember, Vineeta Jayson, she was so well put together just like her parents!
I wonder if anyone on here remembers me!

Dear Ajay - You certainly made their day! My parents were absolutely thrilled to speak with you and get a first hand account of all the news and the people, and I could tell that you touched their hearts with your warmth and genuine affection. Thank you.
Many thanks also to Jaishankar for making the trip to my mum's school. I know my dad was disappointed he couldn't meet you during your visit. Since you visit Bombay often, hope your family can accompany you next time.
Hello Renu - It is very nice to hear from you, and I remember you well! I did promise to send Manoj a picture but think it probably fits in the mystery photo contest since none of you is likely to recognize me! Perhaps it will motivate Manoj to run a second contest. What say, webmaster?
Finally, I think we ought to give Ajay a run for his money. Whatever happened to those plans for the North America re-union? I know Shashi has been enquiring about it, and Ajay has been separately and persuasively suggesting I bring it up :-) .. he thinks I might have beginner's luck .. anyone interested?

Finally ... i got to speak to Mrs. & Mr. Jayson. It was simply wonderful ... a priceless exchange i would say. They were very happy and we chatted for almost 20 minutes with both coming on the line one after another eager to put in a few more words. They were very happy that all of us have done so well and ofcourse wanted to know about everyone. I managed to update them in the best way i could. They had seen our pictures of the two Re-Unions and felt all of us had put on too much weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to your efforts Vineeta we got back our two precious Gurus.

News is that Vijay Prasad & Family are moving back to Delhi after a 10 yr spell at Lucknow, then Varanasi, then Udaipur & last at Jaipur. Vijay has quit Jet Airways and has joined a new firm. The family now gets together in Delhi after 1992.

It appears the Delhi Reunion has had a multiplier effect and so many new (old) members have joined. It was possible due to the phenomenal efforts put in by Ajay Prasad and it staggers the mind to think that people from parts of the country came just for the meet and those from abroad timed their visits accordingly. The appetite is vetted and it s tempting to plan the next reunion.This time with the full participation of the Faculty. How about Shimla ? Shall we take Vijay on his word and make it Jaipur? Lets think it over for the coming winter. A big hello to Mr. And Mrs Jayson and Mr. Rohit Ratanjee. They might not remember it but they also taught me in 10th first batch of new system.
I am in LA (La Palma)/San Diego/Las Vegas this whole June beginning 9th .The whole of July I am at Univ. of Texas at Austin (LB Johnson School)before moving on to Yale Univ.(New Haven) school of Environment and Forestry for the week 31st July-3rd August before returning from JFK on 6th August. Unfortunately, my schedule at LA and NY is too tightly packed but it would be great to meet if anyone known is at Austin or Yale.

Wow this is unbelievable - and quite a treat hearing from Mr & Mrs Jason and Mr Ratanjee after so many years. And earlier some of us had the pleasure of meeting Mr & Mrs Bharadwaj a few months ago.
My 11 year old daughter noticed me beaming ear to ear and I told her why, showed her the pictures and the notes - and she gave me that incredulous look and the usual comment --Papa is weird--. I guess we all were exactly like that at school (except for being slightly more intimidated by our teachers than today's kids are --smiley face-- ) and only later finding out how incredibly valuable, wonderful and memorable those days were!
Thank you and please do keep posting to this site. Rohit-sir, had a good laugh e-fasting and surfexcesses - you have my vote for inclusion in the ever growing e-dictionary.

I concur with all the others that they have not changed much. It is also great to notice that Mr Ratanjee has left a message. I am currently in Berkeley and will be here till June end. I am going for a week end to see my cousin sister at Las Vegas from 8-10 June and possibly to Seattle from 22-24 June. I will be at Oklahoma from 1 July to 5 July before flying back to India. It is so nice to see everyones recent pictures and match the faces. Sir and Madam you definetly look the same and great!!! For those of you I did not fill in about myself- I am Sanjeev Saxena's little sister. I came to the USA in 1983 and got a BS and MS in Molecular Biology. For the past 17 years I have been working in the Pharmaceutical Industry. For the last 5 years have been working as a Scientist at Elan Pharmaceuticals in San Francisco. My husband (Anurag Goel) is from IIT Kanpur 1981 batch. We have 3 children 2 girls 14(Divya) and 12(Ambika) and a boy(Nikhil) who is 10.
Sanjeev filled me in with the details of the Delhi get together. I wish I was there at the time. Any way I will be visiting India with my kids from June 27th to July 29th. I will first spend a few days with Sanjeev in Mumbai, then a week with Renu (Bagga)in Bangalore and will then go to Delhi some time mid July between July 11-14. I then plan to head on to Rohtak for couple of days and from there to Chandigarh. From Chandigarh, I would like to take a trip to Himachal Pradesh for 4-5 days. If time permits I may go to Lucknow/Kanpur for 3-4 days and then head back to Mumbai and return back to the US by the end of July.
I will be travelling alone with my three kids. I am not familiar with travelling in India- how safe is it for me to do this alone? I would appreciate any help in Delhi and would love to meet some of you. Ajay, Vijay, Mini and Guru, I hope we can catch up in Delhi.
Mr. and Mrs Jayson I would love to meet you while I am visiting Sanjeev in Mumbai.
I am really looking forward to this trip and meeting my old friends.

it is wonderful to hear about Sir and Ma'am . They look just the same . I remember every day we used to look forward to maam's class and dread Sir's Class . It was the most wonderful and memorable period of our lives . Thanks to this Forum and Manoj to get us all together again.

It is simply mind -blowing that after all these decades an inter-face was just a mouse click away. I had been meaning to answer your mail but it so happened that I was on an 'e-fast' which becomes necessarry once in a while after surfexcesses.
It is just great knowing about the GangISK. All you chaps seem to have done pretty well with yourselves. I think it was destined somehow for those who survived Afghanistan.
It was a great time of togatherness that we were blessed with in kabul. But to be young was very heaven.

Dear Manoj, Ajay, Shashi, Jaidev,Isha and all of our students,
This is incredible! We could not have imagined that more than 25 years after leaving Kabul, we would be in touch with you! We are thrilled and a bit overwhelmed, and fascinated with the technology that allows us to do this. We could not have predicted what careers you would pursue, and what kinds of people you would become when you grew up !
We are very proud to read about the achievements of several of you, and see pictures of your families. The photos are great, and we wish there were pictures of all of you (with names please, so that we can recognize you!). We are not surprised how strong your bond with the school and classmates is, that after nearly 30 years, you still remember the stories, and can pick up the connections where you left off. There is something unique about the first few batches to graduate from a school . The students and staff all grow up together. We certainly did.
Our daughter seems to have already shared all our news with you, so we won't get into details. We still lead very full lives, but the pace is slower now, and we are enjoying that.
The old photos and your stories bring back lots of wonderful memories for us, and we remember all of you very well. We look forward to hearing more about you via email, and if you happen to be in Navi Mumbai, please let us know.

Hello Shashi, Ajay, Manoj, Jaidev - Thank you for your kind and affectionate messages. Shashi, I must have been quite a little girl when you were in class 11 or 12, so I am touched to know that you even remember me! And Jaidev, it’s funny but I do have a distinct memory of those (windowless!) pre-primary rooms next to the school entrance gates. I also remember the bus rides to Karte Parwan (during which I got to know some of you), with the latest popular Hindi movie songs blaring all the way to and from school. I have to say that those are possibly the only songs that I actually know some of the lyrics of, considering how often I heard them during those early, formative years of my life :-)

Dear Vinita Thanks a million for the photograph! Sir seems to have lost a bit of weight and Maam looks just the same. seening them all I could think of was how musch I have troubled them. All I ever did in English class was read a Chase or or eat out of a fellow called Anshuman's lunch box.

Congratulations on creating a website that is so warm and full of good memories!
My name is Vinitaa, and I am the daughter of Leela and C. Jayson, who spent nearly ten years teaching at India School Kabul. I know those were some of their best years! They will be proud to know how well all of you have done in your lives and careers. While I didn't know most of you well (you were the gorgeous seniors we used to admire from a distance!), I stunned myself by actually being able to recognize many of you in the old photographs on the website - thanks to the anecdotes my parents used to share, and the many, many years of beautiful black-and-white photographs, painstakingly and lovingly preserved by my mother (including that famous picture of Manoj as Wasserkopf!). I have met Prithi Nambiar more recently (about 20 summers ago!) in our common home town of Kannur (Hello, Prithi!). I also got to meet with the Aroras again, and actually completed my 10th class at Apeejay School Noida, when Mr. Arora was the Principal there. And over the years, we have stayed very closely in touch with the Varkeys. As some of you might know, Mr Varkey tragically passed away a few years ago in a motor accident, and when I called Mrs. Varkey to share my grief, she said in her typical confident and no-nonsense way, with her voice breaking just a little, "He was a very good man, and we will miss him so much". I could not agree more. She has settled down in Kerala and has three lovely (and now all grown up!) children.
My parents live in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, and have not relented in their quest for excellence in education. My father is currently the Director of the Apeejay Schools in Mumbai, after having been the founding Principal of a couple of Apeejay Schools in the area. He discovered about twenty-five years ago that his true passion was in starting and nurturing schools from scratch to create amazing institutions, and he has had tremendous success in doing this. My mother took the plunge and happily retired a few years ago - much to our collective disbelief - and immersed herself wholeheartedly (as she had done in teaching!) into doing all the things she had missed during her teaching career of more than 35 years, including writing the manuscript for a book on English Phonetics (!) for school students, and then promptly went back to the academic world - this time as Principal of a small school - Jaipuriar School - in Navi Mumbai.
I know my parents would love to hear from you - they are great at emailing, but haven't quite caught on to blogging or writing to forums - but I did direct them to this website, and have added their email address in the directory if you are interested in contacting them.
Here is a picture of my parents when they last visited me. I don't think they have changed at all over the years, but then, I am terribly biased.

Suri is missing somewhere. He was to have returned to Delhi and contacted some of us, but none of us have heard of him. He is carrying some wonderful memories of the Delhi Re-Union on 27th January and needs to send them to Manoj.
Whoever gets through to him must insist on his sending the photos to manoj ASAP.

Hi guys
It was fun meeting up with all the old pals and also meeting the new generation kids. I must thank Manoj and Ajay who have made this event possible. Ajay and Vijay are just the same way they were going about in Kabul.
yes must tell you lot many people have just not changed much but only their size have changed, I feel happy that all our friends of Kabul are doing very well and must thank the place and the teachers in ISK who have made us like this today but I feel sad that the place where we lived is in total bad shape now I pray for the people and the country to change and be a better place to live.
For people who missed the event must try to make it if it happens again and must enjoy the life we are in. All knew me as Shashi s brother and Shashi is like a live wire as she is in touch with almost all the guys and hope she also makes it next time for the event

Wish you were there....! It was so much fun. Each one walking in with his new self and everyone trying to find the familiarity. We had asked Vijay Suri to convey to you all if this should be done every year or alternate year. Advance notice to be given to the organisers. We wish to change the venue to different cities like Jaipur, Bangalore, Hyderabad, etc so everyone gets a chance to meet somewhere different. Your comments...........!?
Hope everyone has seen the photographs. Vijay Suri took some good ones too which are awaited. "...Vijay...where are those photo's you took...?"
Ajay Prasad & Manoj Srivastava, you did a splendid job organising the evening through your busy schedules. Each person who took the effort to come and with families must've had a blast. Thanks to every one of you. This should be an ongoing process. Maybe fix a date every year or once in two years. Our US friends pls advise best time of the year, so we can have you all over as well.
Appreciate we receive comments from you all how to make best use of this forum. We can look at changing venue to avoid one set of people having to organise everytime. Eg: Next get together can be at Jaipur, and I would love to organize it here. This way we can all see places and be together as well.
One Question to all.........." This is possibly the only aluminae which has started 30 years after the school closed ". True or False. (Maybe we approach Guiness Book of World records...Manoj Talwar.)
So Manoj what do you have to say regarding these photo's, the get together. Can you imagine what it was like? I was actually looking forward to you surprising us with your visit. This is all happening thanks to you buddy...weeeediiii, weediiiii....!

My gosh every one has changed soooooooooooooo much but actually it is not so hard to recognize as most of you are looking like your parents when they were at Kabul so can relate to you easily looks like you guys had a wonderful time. Thanks Sanjeev !!! Dicovering this website has led to amazing results. I have been able to contact Isha and Shampa and am looking forward to getting in touch with more folks, vow what a blast from the past.
To give a quick recap of my life, after Kabul I went to Gangtok (had Isha as my class mate again) then went to Miranda House In Delhi (followed Anuradha shamelessly), was there till I finished my Masters. Came to the US in 1991 (Bloomington IL) and then did my Ph.D (ISU) and Post Doc from U of I at Champaign, IL and am now working for a Biotech company in Madison in their R &D Genomics Div. Am married to Lokesh marketing/printing guy. We have two boys !!! One is 10 (NIkhil) and the other is 6 (Neil) needless to say I have a van full of sports equipment and no time to get a car wash. Anyway if anyone happens to be in Madison WI, please do let me know and DO NOT worry about the cold after all you have all been through the infamous Afgan winters. Hi all. This is simply amazing after all these years (although it seems like just yesterday!)I am able to reconnect with my friends. I have over the years tried to find some of you but it proved to be mission impossible. Manoj's efforts is making this possible are truly priceless.
A bit about me - after ISK I spent about 6 years in India - got my BS, MS and BEd from Delhi University (mainly Miranda House). I have been in US since 1986. I live in Bedminster, New Jersey about 32 miles from New York City. I have a two and half year old and he is quite a handful and has me wrapped around his little finger. I have a job that I love and enjoy with Johnson and Johnson - it gave me the opportunity to live in Europe and Puerto Rico for a few years.
I would love to hear back from you all and hopefully meet up with some of you.

I found this web site by sheer chance as I was Baby sitting an experiment in my lab and boy I am so glad i did. I was a couple of years junior to you guys but if my memory serves me right (which with age is slipping fast) you were in the same class is my sister Anuradha. I have forwarded this website to her and I bet she will be excited, she is in NJ and i am in Wisconsin. Actually several years ago we had run into Mr Pramod sharma on a Guhati flight to Bagdogra and one into Mrs Vergese in Delhi ( a small world indeed), anyway too bad we missed the reunion, hopefully the next time.
Before I keep rambling on do let me know if you do get this mail, it will be great to know about Tariq, Jyoti narula, shampa , Isha all my class mates. Thanks.

hello everyone,
it was such a pleasure to meet Pramod Sir at the reunion. Sir, i am indeed honoured to know that you could recognize me after all these years. it was a pity that you had to leave early,there was hardly any time to talk to you. we shall look forward to meeting you again.
27th jan 2007,is a day, all of us will remember. it was good to meet everybody. it was actually strange coz we left kabul as school kids and then met after all these years as "middle aged parents" Ha! Ha! Ha!. but then we didnot feel it as such coz it was I.S.K once again.
we "girls" haven't changed much but the guys have. we actually played the guessing game ---good fun --trying to place one another.on the whole an intersting evening . am glad i went for which i have to thank bharthi and tariq coz they took me along. a great begining.shall look forward to meeting the others at the next reunion. thank you ajay and manoj shrivastava for making it possible and we have to say three cheers for manoj talwar for making it happen.

Hi Everyone, I think the reunion was incredible. Unfortunately, I missed quiet a bit of it by coming late. Blame it on Vijay (Ha Ha Ha. My flight from Mumbai landed late after being diverted to Jaipur, hence missed half the evening). Missed seeing a lot of you. Would have loved to meet up with everyone but I console myself by saying it was atleast good to see some as opposed to none. Yes Mr. Pramod Sharma is absolutley right, Khalid and Kavery hasnt changed a bit. Interestingly, neither have others, just older and a bit more rounder. The arrangments made by Ajay and Manoj were great. Hope we have a lot more of these in the future and lets not become strangers again. 30 years, is a hell of a long time. Warmth of this gathering just reminded me our our days back in ISK. Needless to say, who all couldnt make it, you missed some thing wonderful, an experince, which is meant to be had and felt. Not being a writer, I am unable to pen it into words.

IT HAPPENED !
THE GREAT ISKAA RE-UNION !!
What an evening it was.
Old Friends with wide-eyed spouses and children trying to place names with faces they were being haunted with, Music of yesteryears, food, drinks, surprise entries ... and a solid gathering of 43. And then entered Mr. Pramod Sharma, our Chemistry teacher, who had thankfully agreed to attend for a just an hour or so.
IT WAS GREAT !!!
UNIMAGINABLE !!!!
My personal thanks to everyone who made the effort to reach the venue from every corner of the globe ... to bless our ISKAA Re-Union at Delhi and make it happen.
Yes, promises have been made to meet more often and keep in touch. To give this get-together a new beginning.
Hope everyone posts his own experiences too to make those nostalgic moments more memorable and on record.
